With the 2017 almost here, Angelique Kerber has begun her campaign for next year as she heads on to the Brisbane International, where she hopes to consolidate on all her achievements form over the last twelve months.
The current World No. 1 has been a consistent fixture at Brisbane, as she reached three the quarter finals a straight three times in a row.
The 2016 season however saw her make the big jump into the final of the competition. And the competition which saw her enter as the No. 10 in the world, sparked a phenomenal run that led to two Grand Slam titles and a place on top of the World rankings for the German.
Probably, the more reason why the veteran has chosen to stick to the formula that worked so well for her last season.
Kerber leads a high-quality field which comprises of four other top ten players and four former or current Grand Slam champions. There however is no former winner in the draw and the competition will be hoping to crown a new champion next year in Brisbane.
The closest any players in the mix came to lifting the trophy was Kerber in 2016 where she ended as a runner-up.
In the Brisbane mix, the other 2016 Grand Slam titlist is GarbineMuguruza and this season saw her maintain a fairly high level, and she will be hoping to improve in 2017, starting with Brisbane.
Dominika Cibulkova is in the Brisbane mix as well, making her seventh consecutive appearance in the competition, where she has never been able to cross the quarter final hurdle.
The other top 10 players in the mix are Karolina Pliskova and Svetlana Kuznetsova. Pliskova’s significant move had come when she blasted her way into the US Open final. For Kuznetsova, she was able to come off with a title win this year in Sydney.
